A Maryland security system supply firm is moving into new offices that are 10 times the
size of its old space as it looks to continue expanding in multiple other states this year.
Surveillance Secure is building out a corporate headquarters facility in Frederick that
totals about 20,000 square feet and is slated to open its doors next month. CEO Kim
Hartman said the new facility at 4102 Harvard Place will provide needed extra space for
more security equipment production and warehousing, expanded research and
development work and general growth. The space will be about 10 times larger than
Surveillance Secure’s former offices, which totaled 2,000 square feet in Gaithersburg.
The expansion follows on recent “rapid, rapid growth” for the business, which consults
on and installs electronic security tools for commercial, retail, education and
government clients, including security cameras, access control systems, alarm and video
monitoring systems and video analytics software. Surveillance Secure worked with eVolutions Designs firm in Boston on the new headquarters.
Hartman said demand for Secure Surveillance’s services, which include providing
remote access to security and other electrically-controlled systems, rose markedly
during the pandemic. He offered examples of how reliance on Surveillance Secure’s
services heightened, including that of a client that needed to remotely lock about 50
gyms early in the pandemic and was able to do so from one location “with the press of a
button.” Hartman did not disclose specific sales growth figures.
“The economic challenges caused by the pandemic show a continuously growing
dependence on the electronic security technology that Surveillance Secure provides,”
Hartman stated, adding that he expects demand for these systems will continue to
increase even when the pandemic subsides. The company currently serves clients across eight states and jurisdictions and has
appointed a new director of sales to drive additional growth.
Surveillance Secure also recently expanded its presence to Colorado Springs, Phoenix,
Miami and Houston through a franchising business model which it launched in 2019.
The company now has franchises in six states, and Hartman said it expects to move into
several new markets by the close of 2021. Target expansion markets include the New
York, Chicago and Boston areas, as well as additional sites in Florida and Texas.
Along with the physical expansions will come workforce expansion. Hartman said the
company has about 20 employees now, including four new hires, and plans to continue
staffing up this year in the new facility. He said Surveillance Secure is also working with
Frederick County and the state to set up an apprenticeship program to help new
entrants in the security tech industry.
